FAQS
FAQS
Why is vitamin D important?
Vitamin D is a hormone that is synthesized in our skin with the help of sunlight, which is why it is also known as the sunshine vitamin. It contributes to the normal absorption of calcium in the body, thereby maintaining healthy bones and teeth. At the same time, it also contributes to the functioning of muscles and the immune system.
Why does vitamin D deficiency occur?
Vitamin D deficiency is a health problem worldwide and also here. Research shows that up to 80% of Slovenians do not have an adequate intake of vitamin D. This is especially true in winter, when we are less exposed to the sun, and clothing and sunscreens with UV protection also have an additional effect of inhibiting vitamin D production. Furthermore, few foods contain the sun vitamin in a noteworthy amount. These include fatty fish, fish oil, liver, and egg yolk, while plant-based foods practically do not contain vitamin D.
Therefore, for people with insufficient exposure to sunlight, as well as for newborns, infants, and children, an additional intake of vitamin D through dietary supplements is recommended.
What can affect the amount of vitamin D in our body?
- Use of sunscreens with a high protection factor.
- Clothing that blocks the sun's contact with our skin.
- The clarity of our skin: people with darker skin need to be exposed to UV rays for a longer time than those with lighter skin to get enough vitamin D.
- The time of year: In winter and autumn, when there is less sunlight, the body is less likely to produce enough vitamin D.
- Working hours: since we work in dark rooms until late in the afternoon, even in summer, we may be underexposed to UV rays, which are crucial for the formation of adequate amounts of vitamin D.
Where does the vitamin D contained in Valens oral sprays come from?
Valens vitamin D oral sprays mainly contain the natural form of vitamin D3 derived from lanolin, a yellow waxy substance obtained from sheep's fleece (sheep's wool). This is a form identical to the one our body produces with the help of sunlight, and it has been shown to have excellent absorption. Especially for vegans, we have also developed the Valens D-Natural Vegan oral spray with plant-based vitamin D3 (algae).
Can pregnant women also take Valens vitamin D products?
Yes, vitamin D is also essential for pregnant women. In fact, research shows that more than half of pregnant Slovenian women have insufficient levels of vitamin D. In one of the studies conducted in Slovenia, up to 55% of the pregnant participants had low vitamin D levels. Therefore, pregnant women should also ensure that their amounts of this important vitamin are sufficient, especially in autumn and winter, when there is less sunlight.
Does it matter when I take vitamin D?
The vitamin D is a fat-soluble vitamin, so it is recommended to take it during or immediately after a meal.
Can we get enough vitamin D even without dietary supplements?
The only "natural" way to obtain enough vitamin D is its natural synthesis in the skin under the direct influence of sunlight. Due to the length of the day and the angle and intensity of solar radiation, vitamin D is produced more actively from April to September around midday. This means that, in principle, it is not necessary to take vitamin D3 supplements in the summer, as the sun is stronger and we also spend more time outdoors.
If you believe you are not getting enough vitamin D even during this time (or if you spend most of your time indoors or avoid the sun), it would be best to consult your doctor about it or to have a self-paid vitamin D test done at a laboratory.
Deficiency is very common during the colder months of the year, when the sun's rays are too weak to synthesize vitamin D in our skin. Only a few foods are rich in vitamin D, specifically fatty marine fish (for example, salmon), and in very small amounts also eggs, milk, and dairy products.
Given that the amount of vitamin D3 in food sources is therefore insignificant and that studies show a high level of vitamin D3 deficiency worldwide, experts recommend supplementing it with dietary supplements.
Is it absolutely necessary to take vitamin D3 supplements?
In summer, when the sun is stronger and we spend more time outdoors, it is generally not necessary to take vitamin D supplements. It is important to note that protective clothing and sunscreens inhibit the formation of vitamin D3. Additional intake is necessary in autumn and winter when, due to geographic latitude, the biosynthesis of vitamin D in the skin is not sufficiently effective and the risk of deficiency is high.
Infants and the elderly are at special risk of deficiency. Firstborns do not receive enough vitamin D3 through breast milk, and sun exposure can be very dangerous for their sensitive skin. The elderly often spend more time indoors, and their need for vitamin D is even greater due to the increased bone breakdown process.
According to studies and research showing a high incidence of vitamin D3 deficiency among Slovenians, the administration of vitamin D supplements is absolutely necessary, at least during the coldest part of the year.
Can Valens D Junior and Valens D-natur also be used by adults?
Of course. Due to their composition, the products are suitable for children (Valens D Junior) and babies (Valens D-natur) as well as adults. To meet the vitamin D needs of our body, adults can increase the number of sprays they consume per day. Instead of one spray, you can take 2 to 6 sprays a day.

D Junior Oral Spray
Valens D Junior is an innovative food supplement in the form of an oral spray, especially indicated for children. Unlike drops, it allows easy, precise and fun dosing. The shape of the spray allows excellent absorption, which begins already in the oral cavity.
The product contains a natural form of vitamin D3, identical to what our body synthesizes with the help of sunlight and whose excellent absorption has been proven. One spray contains 500 IU of vitamin D3 of natural origin, from lanolin. The oral spray has a delicious strawberry flavor and is sugar-free. It contains xylitol, which is naturally present in some types of fruit, and gives the product a sweeter flavor.
The product is suitable for children from 3 years old.
Easy to dose and fun to use
Valens D Junior is an excellent alternative not only to capsules and tablets, but also to cumbersome drops that are difficult to count and measure accurately. The product is simply sprayed into the child's mouth and thus provides the optimal amount of vitamin D3.
Clinically proven efficacy
Valens oral sprays with vitamin D are manufactured in Slovenia according to the highest quality standards (the company has a GMP certificate). Each production batch is tested periodically with the help of external institutions, and its effectiveness has also been proven by a clinical study. This demonstrated that the consumption of Valens oral sprays with vitamin D3 contributes to increasing the concentration of vitamin D in the blood. Valens oral sprays are therefore the only Slovenian dietary supplements with vitamin D that have their own clinical study.
Why do we need vitamin D?
